Hi,
You can resolve the problem by clearing those folders by
following these steps:
1. Clearing Cache and History by following these steps:
a. Close all programs and Internet Explorer windows.
b. Double-click the "Internet Options" icon in the Control Panel.
c. Click Internet Options/General tab.
d. Click the Delete Files button within Temporary Internet Files
section.
e. Click the Clear History button within the History section.
f. Click OK.
g. Close the Control Panel window.
h. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
NOTE: Enable the "Show all Files" option before performing the
next step. From Windows Explorer, click Tools, click
Folder Options, and select the View Tab. Select the "Show
All Files" option under the Advanced Settings section.
2. Delete files within WindowsUpdate folder by following these steps:
a. Double-click My Computer and then double-click C:
b. Double-click the Program Files folder and then double-click the
"WindowsUpdate" folder.
c. Delete all files and folders within this directory.
NOTE: Disable any Anti-Virus protection software or download
assistance programs that may be running before reconnecting
to the site. Anti-Virus software stops programs from
writing to the registry in Windows.
After performing the above steps, retry the Windows Update Site.
If the problem persists, rename the C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2\
folder to force Windows to recreate the EDB database by following these
steps:
1. Click Start and click My Computer.
2. Open the C: drive.
3. Open the Windows folder.
4. Open the System32 folder.
5. Locate the CatRoot2 folder and rename it to CR2OLD.
6. Close the window and try installing the Critical Updates again.
If the problem persists, perform these steps:
1. Visit the following Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
NOTE: The URL above will take you to a non HP Web site. HP
does not control and is not responsible for information
outside of the HP Web site.
2. Click the Personalize Windows Update link.
3. Select the "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under
See Also" option.
4. Click the Save Settings button.
5. Click the Windows Update Catalog link under the See Also section.
6. Click the "Find updates for the Windows Operating Systems" link.
7. Select Windows XP Home.
8. Click the Search button
9. Click the Critical Updates section to locate all the Critical
Updates available for the system.
You can now select the updates that failed to install and download them
again. This site will allow you to save these updates to disk before
you install them. Double-click the downloaded file to install it.
You should now be able to completely download and install Windows
Critical updates.
