i had this same problem, here was my setup at the time.

I have ADSL and my dsl modem has a built in firewall, since the wife,kid and
myself all had our computers hooked up to a router(with a built in firewall)
than connected to our modem we could not access the update site. what we did
is went out and bought a switch type hub and all was fine.
