There is also a good chance that the System Restore hierarchy has been
corrupted by NAV's LiveUpdate. Does System Restore function ?
To test, create a shortcut on the desktop, open System Restore, choose
  Create a Restore Point, OK out. Now delete the shortcut. Reboot the
system. Open System Restore and choose the one you manually set.
After the restore operation is complete and the system reboots, the
shortcut should be back on the desktop.
