Dear Friends,

I need your help! When I try to use Microsoft Update I get the error message 0x800C0005 after I try to scan. I called
Microsoft, and they told me that this error message means that I have damaged files that need to be repaired. They
told me to go to their web site, but I got the "this page cannot be displayed" message. This is a message that I get a lot.
I'm hoping that since I can't get help there, that someone might be able to help me here.

I have a two month old Dell computer. I am running Windows XP. I use Norton Internet Security 2004, but had previously used the McAfee that shipped with my computer. We have had lots of trouble in this short amount of time. We have had the computer reformatted two times already. It turned out that we had the Gaobot worm. I am wondering if my current problems are the result of that worm. It seems that whenever I try to get online help with technical problems everything
is fine until I actually click to make the connection to the support service. Then I seem to always get the "this page cannot be displayed" message. It makes it virtually impossible to get help!!!!!

I have the following questions:
How do I locate the damaged files?
How do I repair the damage to the files?
Could this be the result of having had the worm?
If so, how can I be sure that I have no further damage that I'm unaware of?

I had tried to send this request for help from my computer this morning, but got a message that the service was temporarily
unavailable. I am sending this letter from my public library. Please help. I'm getting desperate!!!

Thanks,
Denise
