Way more Popups, attempted Hi-jackings since installing latest Windows
updates on April 20th
Because I wanted to use a VPN connection, I wanted to ensure my PC
would not cause any probems with a server or infect it somehow.
On April 20th I virus scanned my PC, cleared the disk cache, temp
folder, temporary Internet folder, etc. Then I installed the
following Windows updates
Security Update for Windows XP (KB835732)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB828741)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB837001)
Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 (KB837009)
Everything installed fine, and is working fine.
But i've noticed way more popups, attempted hi-jackings, programs
trying to install on my pc, etc.
I used the Trend Micro Housecall online virus scanner, nothing found
(and it's very good about picking stuff up).
Also updated & ran Spybot Search & Destory. Nothing new found.
I did setup a VPN connection, but it never connected successfully.
I've noticed the VPN window has came up on it's own 3 times like a
hacker somehow detected it on my pc.
I have NAT protection in a router for my firewall.
Any ideas if the updates somehow caused this new problems, or is it
something else? I rarely see this kind of activity on my pc.
Maybe a website I visited could have caused this?
