Try this: find the WU or WUTemp folder on you C drive,
(assumes you have loaded the OS on "C"), open the foldert
and delete everything inside. Next open your Windows
folder and find the subfolder "Prefetch". Delete
everything in the prefetch (in fact you should do this
prefetch clean about once a month). If you have a
firewall installed turn it off. Now launch the windows
update and you should find everything works fine. On
completion of the update turn your firewall back on.
Rgds.
