The "In progress" listed in the Windows Update history file is as expected.
Service packs and other exclusive updates require a restart to complete the
installation, Windows Update is longer active after the restart therefore
unable to verify installation. If the Service Pack fails it will popup an
error message on the screen.

Run Winver to verify the service pack is installed.

Start > Run
Type "winver"
Press ok
Look for the version number and service pack.
