I have one computer that I am having the exact same
problem on. KB828026 keeps appearing as a critical
update even though I have installed it several times both
manually and through the automatic update.

Mark (First Mark, Not Me) is right. Your fix does not
work. The fix on [support.microsoft.com] does not work.
I do not have a registry entry for KB828026. I have
tried reinstalling it with everything disabled including
the McAfee Anti-Virus software (v 7.1.0). It still
appears as a critical update.

Is is possible that the critical update files can get
corrupted?

Computer is a Dell Optiplex with Windows XP Service Pack
1 about two weeks old. After I set it up, I went out to
get all of the update and they all took except this one.
