George;
Good to hear you resolve the issue.
I had been researching this with someone else and she sent me your
resolution as I had not yet seen it.
However after checking, I have seen computers with the expired
certificate just as yours.
The difference being they update OK with the expired certificate.
What is the other thing you did?
That may be what actually resolved it.

OK I got this fixed. Seems it was definitely an expired certificate. The certificate is www.verisign.com/CPS Incorp.byRef.LIABILITY LTD.(c)97 VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority. You will find this under the Intermediate Certification Authorities and under Certificates in there. This certificate expired (January 7, 2004) and has to be replaced. I believe you can follow the directions on how to do that from Microsoft and Verisign better then I can tell you Here are the links: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;834438 Anyway follow the directuions to replace this certificate from Verisign: https://www.verisign.com/support/site/caReplacement.html There is one thing else I did. Let me know if you get success or not from the above if not I'll let you know what I did after the above. Go to Windows Update with Windows 2000 SP3. The page comes up asking to scan. This will fail. But I know something is incorrect because the status bar is showning the progress blue bar which never finishes. I could leave it moving from right to left for 100 years it will never complete. I have seen this before I just cannot remember what the solution was. It may be to upgrade to IE 6 which cannot be done. Any suggestions? The error code is: (0x800C0008) -- George Hester __________________________________
