SSL, IE problems

Problems, problems!
1.I can't access secure sites on the internet.
2.I can't open Word. It tells me it has encountered a
problem and needs to close. I'm using XP Home version.
Help me please!
PS: I run Norton and I checked for Blaster & Doom. Don't
have either.
