Paula,

The "In progress", status in the history file is by design. The Service
Pack requires a restart to continue the installation process. When you
restart the system Windows Update is no longer running therefore cannot
verify the installation.

Verify the Service Pack 1 is installed.

Go to the Start > Run
Type "Winver" (w/o quotes)
Press OK

The "About Windows " dialog box will open. The version number should also
read
"Service Pack 1"
