Re: Windows 2000 Terminal Servces Running on a Windows 2003/2008 domain

Brilliant! Thanks for the response.

Just so I'm 100% clear on the licensing front, there's not cost involved
from a TS CAL angle then if a Windows 2000 Terminal Server uses a Windows
Server 2003/2008 licensing server?

Thanks again, Andy

Hi Andrew,

For Win2k TS you need to have Win2k or higher version(Win2k3, Win2k8 or
win2k8 R2) of license server.
So, on upgrading DC if you have license server also on that higher version
machine then any lower version TS can connect to it.

I.e. If you are planning to move your DC and license server both to a
higher version then you can still have your Win2k TS connecting to higher
version license servers. In a way, you are good to upgrade your DC:).

Hope that helps!

Thanks
Silvia

Hi there,

We currently have Windows 2000 Terminal Servers in production using
Windows 2000 Domain Controllers as licensing servers. The domain is
Windows 2000 native.

We're looking to implement Windows Server 2003 Domain Controllers
followed by Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers. Will the Windows
2000 Terminal Servers continue to function or is there anything else
required? Can Windows 2000 Terminal Servers use a Windows 2003/2008
Domain Controller as a licensing server?

Just looking for anything which may trip me up, we still use 2000 TS due
to the cost of moving to 2003/2008 TS.

Thanks.
