Re: TS Licensing Issue

You must change the licensing mode of your Terminal Server to the
Per User licensing mode. You can do this from Administrative Tools
- Terminal Services Configuration - Server Settings - Licensing
Mode.
If it's still in the default Per Device mode, it will request a
Device TS CAL from the LS. And since the LS only has 2003 Per User
TS CALs, it will issue temporary Per Device TS CALs, which will
expire after 90 days.

Note that Per User TS CALs are not fully implemented in 2003, so
they are never issued. You just need to have them to be compliant
with the EULA. So after you have changed the licensing mode on the
TS, your "Issued" count for the Per User TS CALs aill still say
"N/A", but the warning about expiring licenses will disappear and
no more temporary Per Device TS CALs will be issued.

I have a TS Windows 2003 server that tells me that my temporary
license is going to expire.

When I look at the TS licensing it shows 3 sections.
1. Existing Windows 2000 Server - Terminal Services CAL Token
(per device). This says its unlimited and none issued.

2. Temporary Licenses for Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server
per device CAL Token. This does not say how many is available
but it says that 4 are issued.

3. Windows Server 2003 - TS Per User CAL. This says there is 5
available and none are issued.

How come the 5 user CALs we purchased are not being used?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jasper
