Re: Issue with program when not an administrator

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Ahhh!

Thank you Vera and TP. I got it working! Yes we are current on our Tax
Registration and correctly installed.

It really took just hammering down on the Process Monitor and giving
permissions all the way through even to the specific file and on the
registry.

I feel I am getting more and more comfortable with making those type of
changes. In the end I am happy I don't have to resort to openining up the
user as an administrator and he can have full use of the program he needs.

Now if another error pops up in Quantum I will run process monitor again and
see where the hang up is. Thanks again!

Hi Gretchen,

What is the precise function that is not working correctly on
your server? Please provide the exact menus/buttons needed
to click on in Quantum to reproduce the issue.

You installed Quantum while in install mode, correct?

You are current with the Tax Registration Service, correct?

You have installed all Quantum Service Releases and Tax updates, correct?

- Current is SR-4 with Tax Service of 20090202

Here is a summary of the Permissions that regular users
need to run Quantum (from memory). I will not include
cases where users only need Read-Only since they will have
that by default. Hopefully this will give you some things to
check on your TS:

Registry (grant Read/Write rights or easier: Full Control to Quantum Users group):

HKLM\Software\Btrieve Technologies
HKLM\Software\Peachtree
HKLM\Software\Pervasive
HKLM\Software\Pervasive Software
HKLM\Software\PE?????? - Series of capital letters & numbers with subkeys

Files (grant all except for Full, Change Perm., Take Own. to Quantum Users group):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Aatrix Software\Aatrix Forms\Peachtree
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive Software\PSQL
Shared Quantum network folder location (this has company data, forms, etc.)

When using Process Monitor to troubleshoot, use the filter feature
to narrow down the results. For example, you may want to filter
based on process name = peachw.exe or process name = w3dbsmgr.exe.

Thanks.

I have a user that is not an administrator on Terminal Server that
cannot fully use a program (Peachtree Quantum 2009.) After playing
with this a ton and talking to Peachtree support their only
suggestion is to make him an administrator. For obvious reasons this
is not an option.

I actually have five users that are not administrators that run this
program. They all have the same issue, but he is the only one we
want to use their Tax Form Report function. It appears to try and
connect with another "program" Aatrix Forms. After he attempts to
run and I log in to TS as the administrator I get an error: Aatrix
Forms encountered a problem and needed to close.

I am stumped. This is not the first time we had an issue running
Peachtree Quantum 2009 on our Win 2003 TS, but the other time it was
a small error. We disabled their installed Sage Advisor program that
wasn't needed and it eliminated the error. This time we need the
"accessory" program inorder to run these forms from a
non-administrator account.

Is any of this even making sense? Basically I need to know how a
non-administrator user can have permissions and run a program,
including their add-on prorams, as an administrator, but can't have
other administrator rights for everything else.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks. ~Gretchen
