we have had such an issue, because packets are lost on the network. this is reproduceable by TMnetsim if you select a loss > 0%. the switch was the culprit.
please try to establish a rdp session from the console on the TS to the TS itself. Hostname: localhost

After running MS update I cannot use remote desktop to login the my windows
Server 2003 R2.
I have uninstalled the updates that were installed hoping connectivity would
be restored but I still receive the following error.
"Because of a protocol error, ths session will be disconnected. Please try
connecting to the remote computer again."
I have tried to make a connection from machines running XP SP2, XP SP3 and
Vista Ultimate. All result in the same error.
I searced the forums to find a solution and have reemoved and recreated the
connection in Terminal Services configuration. I have also downloaded and
updated RDP clients to 6.0.
I have been searching for a fix for 2 days now. I need it done like
yesterday as none of the remote sites can get connected to the server.
