You can switch between remote-admin and application mode by the value

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]!"TSAppCompat"

0: Remote Admin
1: Application Mode

If you just want to prevent user login remotely, then you can disable remote desktop connection, run sysdm.cpl in a command shell, its in the Remote Tab.

I want to test a third party software and need to 'Turn Off' TS temporarily.

Can it be turned off/on without having to reconfigure, enter licence info
again etc.

Of course there would be no users using TS at the time.
