Re: One more serial port redirection question

Since the setting is a negative one ("do not allow..."), yes,
you'll want to disable it to be sure to allow COM port redirection.

From the Explain text:

By default, Terminal Services allows this COM port redirection.
If the status is set to Enabled, users cannot redirect server data
to the local COM port. If the status is set to Disabled, Terminal
Services always allows COM port redirection. If the status is set
to Not Configured, COM port redirection is not specified at the
Group Policy level. However, an administrator can still disable COM
port redirection using the Terminal Services Configuration tool.

Vera,

Thanks. I found the group policy editor and those settings are
listed under Terminal Services. Now, COM port redirection was
set to Not Configured. This should be set to Disabled, correct?

There should be 10 different settings under "Client/Server data
redirection", assuming you run 2003 SP2:

"Allow Time Zone Redirection"
"Do not allow clipboard redirection"
"Do not allow smart card device redirection"
"Allow audio redirection"
"Do not allow COM port redirection"
"Do not allow client printer redirection"
"Do not allow LPT port redirection"
"Do not allow drive redirection"
"Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a
session"
"Terminal Server Fallback Printer Driver Behavior"

Seems you need to update your .adm template files.

This question actually comes from a post from Vera Noest:

The local (or a domain) policy should contain this settings
tree: "Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates -
Windows Components - Terminal Services - Client/Server data
redirection"

I checked our local policy and under Terminal Services -
Client/Server data redirection, the only thing listed is
Allow Audio Redirection. For serial redirection, should
there be something else? And if so, what and how do I add
it?

Thanks,
.
