Yes, multi-user access requires a server OS. I would strongly
suggest running your tests on a system that is sufficiently similar
to the production system to abe of any value at all. So by all
means, install 2003 TS.
And I think your first goal should be to test if your application
can run on a Terminal Server. Period. Make sure that you perform
all tests with a normal user account, not an Administrator account.

If you want to access your Terminal Server with Internet explorer,
you will also have to run IIS + the web components of Terminal
Services (tsweb). But I would start accessing the TS with the
standard remote desktop client.

Vera,

Thanks. So I guess I need to install Server2003 on the computer
to allow for multiuser access, is that correct?

Sorry these questions are so basic. My ultimate goal is twofold
- first to test wehether the app can run ok remotely over the
Internet or over a LAN or WAN using TS even as single user.
Second, what is the speed when running 5 users at a time. I
need to know what I need to purchase to run the tests.

The first goal is most important right now, and need to
configure my hardware/OS to allow me to run tests using TS even
if it is as a single user.

Many thanks,
Mark

I'm sorry, but your planned test environment is not going to
work. XP pro can only run one single user session at a time,
either at the console or through a remote connection. After
all, it's a single user OS.

I need to test out a VB app running on TS. I would like to
see what kind of speed I can get for multiple remote users
(up to 5) running the app with TS. Am very new to TS.

Right now I have 2 XP Home computers to use for this testing.
As I understand it, XP home does not have TS capabiltiy. I
believe I need to upgrade one computer to XP Pro to do this
testing. Correct?

If I do so, I believe this will allow up to 5 remote
concurrent users (before I would need additional licenses)
running the app on the upgraded XP Pro computer. Correct?

I may run this app either over the Internet or on a LAN or
WAN. If I run over the internet, can I test this using my
other comptuer under XP Home and my Internet Explorer
browser, or would I need something additional on the remote
machine?

If I run over a LAN or WAN, would I need XP Pro on the
machines needing to access the app?

Many thanks for your help on this,
Mark
.
