Re: Workstation with printers mapped under different Session #

Unfortunately in my circumstance those printer mappings are not going away
when the user logs off. So what happens is the new person that logs in and
gets a session ID and it matches that of a previous user whose printers
didn't go away, the new user now sees all the old print ques under their
session. Still have not figured out what is happening here. Any guidence
would be appreciated.

Hi,
The inactive TS ports will remain as long as the server is up. Basically,
they will be re-used when another session comes up.
When a session disconnects/logs off, only the mapping between the
session's printers and ports will be removed, but the ports will be
retained.
Could you explain in more detail about the below query: "If the user is
logging on again he can't use his session printer" ?
Are the printers not visible in Control Panel on the new session ? If yes,
are there any event logs on printer redirection on that session ?

I am having the same problems,
When a user is logging off, the inactive ts printer ports remain.
If the user is logging on again he can't use his session printer.
Do you have a solution already???

All users are only allowed one session at a time through TS
configuration
manager and I can verify this with terminal services manager. The
problem
seems to be that when they logoff a session it sometimes does not
disconnect
printers from the terminal server. Then when the relogon say an hour
later
it mounts all of their printers again under a another different session
ID.

This is fixed in Longhorn Server Beta 3, where printers are isolated
by
session id. For 2003, you could limit each user to 1 concurrent
session,
which should resolve this. This is the default setting, and can be
configured via tscc.msc.

On a fairly heavily used terminal server that we allow printer

are seeing references in the printers and faxes of computers that

printers mapped under multiple session numbers. What happens here is
that
when they try to print something, they see printers from both
sessions.
I
have confirmed that the computer is only logged in under one session
ID
in
terminal services manager and the other session is not disconnected.
Another problem is, if someone else logs in and grabs a session id
that
is
available but still has some printers left out there from another
session,
that user can see printers from that session.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?
Thanks for your help
