hi
Is anybody there to help me to sort out the problem?
MY Problem is HP 1020 USB Printer not redirecting while
connected to 2003 server r2. Locally printer ok. other printers
like epson LQ300, LQ680 can be connected thro RDP. Can any body
give some solution for this. My client O/S IS XP Home.
Thanks in advance

Sameer, there are two relatively simple ways to resolve this
situation:
1) Install a print driver on the server that matches *exactly*
the print driver installed on the client. Note, the name I am
referring to is NOT the printer name. On the client, go to the
printer's properties page, click on the advanced tab, and copy
the name of the driver character for character as it appears on
the client. This is case sensitive, and every letter, number,
symbol and space is very important.
On the server, goto Printers & Faxes, then click Files >> Server
Properties and go to the Drivers tab. Click add, and provide
the location for the driver to be installed. If you do not have
the exact driver, you should consider downloading the current
driver from HP's web site and installing it on both the server
and the client. (There are workarounds, but they require
tinkering that may be harmful if not properly performed).
2) The second option, which may actually be easier to
implement, is to turn on the fallback print drivers on your
server. You must have Service Pack 1 installed on the server in
order to use this feature.
Using your group policy editor, navigate to Computer
Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components
see a policy item called "Terminal Server Fallback PrinterTerminal Services >> Client/Server data redirection. You'll
Driver Behavior."
We usually set this value to "Default to PCL if one is not
found." Read the on-line documentation though, to determine if
this is the appropriate setting for your application.
My staff has minimized the amount of time wasted maintaining
print drivers on Terminal Servers dramatically by using this
strategy. We have discovered very few printers (PCL of course)
that do not work well in this environment.
Good luck.

While the above described methods are valid in general, I would
strongly recommend to *not* install the HP 1020 driver on the
server.
This driver is *not* TS compatible and known to crash the spooler
on the TS.
