And for a long-time solution, contact the manufacturer of the
application and tell them that the application should use the
GetDefaultPrinter function. This will retrieve the default printer
in the session, irrespective of the changing session id.

you'd have to use something like vbscript or kixstart to map the.
printer through a login script. The printers would behave just
as if they were on a workstation. This does mean that the
printers have to be networked and directly accessible by the
terminal server of course.

You could try mapping printers through login scripts instead
of using the autocreated printers.
