Re: Unable to connect to TS periodically.

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Any errors or warnings in the EventLog?

Check if this applies:

888928 - Your Windows Server 2003-based or Windows 2000-based
computer occasionally becomes unresponsive, and you receive an
Event ID 2019 error message in the System log

I get this too, periodically. The error message I get is "The
system cannot log you on due to the following error:

The RPC server is unavailable"

This tends to last for 10 minutes or so and then all is back
working again. The two articles suggest patching the server to
the latest SP, but our server is fully patched (SP2) but still
has this problem. I would love to fix this as it cheeses the
users off no end.

Do you receive any error message at the client when you try to
connect?

Check if this hotfix applies (included in SP2):

923630 - A Windows Server 2003-based terminal server stops
responding to new connection requests, and the logon window
does not appear
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=923630

Or maybe this one:

883670 - FIX: The Terminal Services service stops responding in
Windows Server 2003 and you receive an "The RPC service is
unavailable" error message when you try to connect to the
terminal server by using the Remote Desktop Connection program

I have spent time reading posts on this discussion group and
got some tips, but would appreciate some additional ideas on
how to troubleshoot my particular situation.

The basic issue is simply that my Windows 2003 SP1 Std
Edition server stops accepting RDP connections. The machine
is up, ping-able, still serving web pages, etc. When I log
into the machine the Terminal Service process is running.
There are no events in the system or app logs that are
obviously related to the issue.

As per tips in another post, I have installed UPHClean and
enabled verbose logging of the user environment. I guess I
would have to wait for the situation to happen to capture
anything useful in the logs though...

Anything else that I should be looking at? Additional
information that I can provide that would be helpful.

Thanks much!
