Re: 32bit applications in TS on 2003x64

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

There are two Intel 64 Bit architectures:

IA64: implemented in the Itanium CPUs, only interesting for very large
servers, not TS

Intel 64/AMD 64: implemented in nearly all current Intel and AMD CPUs

Your HP server with its Xeon CPU has built-in support for Intel 64.
That means you can install Windows Server 2003 x64 edition on the
machine. Windows x64 natively supports 32 Bit apps, they just need a
little more RAM (how much depends on your application).

And yes, Windows x64 terminal services do support 32 Bit apps.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

A client I am involved with installed TS on W2K3r2 (32bit) about 9 months
ago. From day one they suffered application hangs once/twice a day. Now they
are happening 4-5 times a day sometimes more.

The server is HP ML350 G4p and has 2xDual core Xeon 4GB RAM. It now seem to
suffer a lot of paging and therefore the CPU usage is getting high.

Originally it was planned that W2k3r2 x64 would be used so if Memory was a
limitation it could be increased.

My question is - Can 32-bit applications run through TS that is installed on
x64 version. I have read that IA64 version can only run 64bit software but
want clarification for x64.

Thanks in advance.

If you need any further info please let me know.

Cheers
