Re: Rosetta Stone

Great! I'm glad that you have it running.
It's impossible for me to say if the application will work with
multiple users.
Yes, that's the whole purpose of TS, but if the application is not
designed to work in a TS environment, all kinds of problems can
arise. A common source of problems is applications which use
registry keys in HKLM to store user-specific settings, in stead of
HKCU, but there are many more possible problems, so be sure that
you test it with multiple simultaneous users before taking it into
production.
Didn't they vendor specify *what* problems you might encounter?
Maybe they referred to the problem with the lack of bi-directional
audio? Or the bad quality of the audio?
Anyway, it should be easy for you to test if it works for a second
user as well.

Thanks, Vera. It worked. I installed the client part on the
TS, and can log on as a user and run it (had to grant some
special rights). Will there be a problem when multiple users
try to access the executable? When I called Sunburst/Rosetta to
ask about running in TS environment, they warned me that it
would be a problem, but isn't that the purpose of the TS (ie:
don't they each get a "copy" of the executable?)
Thanks for your help!

I've no experience whatsoever with this software, but in
general for client-server applications:
install the network software on a separate server and the
client software on the TS. Remember that a TS is just a
multi-user workstation, that makes it easier to understand what
should be installed where.

A warning: this software seems to use sound heavily, in 2
directions. You will only be able to redirect sound from the
server to the client (i.e. students will be able to hear what
is said in the program) but they won't be able to use a
microphone. And the sound won't be very good either, so be sure
to test this with a demo version before you make any
investments.

If you need bi-directional sound, you will need Citrix on top
of TS.

Has anyone successfully installed The Rosetta Stone Spanish
software on a TS?
If so, could you please tell me how you configured it? Did
you install the
network software on the server, or just the client
application?
