My suggestion would be to use a RDP over a VPN connection.
Are you running Windows XP desktops? If so you can turn on Remote Desktop on these and add the users in to the rights goups to enable them to access them. Then once they establish a vpn they can RDP into the Windows XP box and work as if they are at the office. You just need to ensure that no one is logged into the machines they will target.

Hi.
I have a problem at my workplace with regard to grant remote access for two
of the users. The scenario is that they need access to documents in a public
directory, without needing them to be mailed or ftp'ed to themselves. A VPN
or Remote Desktop connection would be ideal, but the data is confidential.
Also, and here's the kicker, the connection is not always fantastic, and does
break down occasionally. My security concerns I think are not going to be
too much of a problem as I believe that we are not the only people doing this
and therefore the security must have been sorted out before. Is a VPN or
remote desktop the way to go in this scenario, with some extra redundancy
built into the network connection? Or is there another option? The problem
is that the two users both need to access the same documents, which then need
to be distributed to the users within the company. So I would like to avoid
any need to copy and synchronise documents between two locations.
Any thoughts, anyone.
thanks
carlos
