RE: Printer share name changes HELP!

Hello,
This happens to both printers on the remote side. The issue mainly
occurs after the session has disconnected and upon reconnect it then connects
to a different session #. We are not using roaming profiles. Is there a
way to reconnect to a specific session? Why/how would a share name change on
the server side? We really need to get this resolved so any help is
appreciated.

Hello Dan,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

First I am sorry that you have not received any reply due to the newsgroup
query system error. At this moment, I will follow your question.

From your post, you have two remote PCs connecting to Windows 2000 Server
Terminal Services and you have a receipt printer at each PC and you map it
(net use) to lpt1:\\servername\sharename. However, the printer share name
always changes every couple days.

Could you first help us confirm the following information?
1. Does the issue only occur on this specific printer? What about other
printers?
2. Have you installed other printers on this Windows 2000 Server and shared
them?

Based on my research, I'd like to provide you with the following
suggestions for your reference:

Suggestion1.
==============
Please try to remove all shared printers on the Terminal Server and then
reinstall the receipt printer and map it to monitor the issue.

Suggestion2.
==============
In addition, I found the following reasons may cause this issue:
In a Microsoft Windows 2000-based Terminal Services session, the default
printer setting may unexpectedly change. This problem may occur if the
following conditions are true:
o Users use roaming profiles.
o The default printer setting is configured in a roaming profile.
This problem occurs when you use either the Remote Desktop Connection
client or the Citrix ICA client.

If so, you may try to remove Citrix ICA client to test the issue.

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao
