Re: User Unable to Launch Application

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Since Solidsworks seems to be a 3D CAD application, have you
checked with the vendor if it is supported at all on a TS?
Such applications are normally *not* good candidates for TS
deployment.
And have you checked their KnowledgeBase? I tried to, but they
demands a customer account.

Can you run Solidsworks in a TS session with a testuser account
which you add to the local Administrator group? Note that I do
*not* suggest this as a permanent solution to the problem, just for
troubleshooting.
If the testuser can run the application succesfully with
Administrative rights, then you should download Process Monitor
(former FileMon and RegMon combined) from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/p
rocessmonitor.mspx
Run it as administrator on the server (when no user is connected),
start a TS session as a normal user and try to run the application.

Process Monitor will show you all "access denied" errors that
occur, so that you can give your users the necessary permissions on
a file-to file or Registry subkey basis.

I've set up a lab to evaluate hosting applications for student
access - my user community â?? an application â??Solidworksâ??
using a terminal session â?? TSWEB. Besides this application
Iâ??ve also granted the users access to Office â?? including
Word, PowerPoint and Excel. The configuration is 2 W2K3 servers
= 1 DC for the Domain â?? and one for Windows 2003 Server with
Terminal services. The Users can launch and use the Office
applications without a problem, but the other application
Solidworks simply fails to launch. Iâ??ve installed both apps
â?? office and solidworks â?? using the â??Add Remove
Programsâ??

Iâ??ve checked the Application in the Event Viewer but am not
seeing anything relevant to the issue.

Your assistance is most appreciated.
