Re: My Documents Folder redirection

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi,

- Create a separate OU and move your TS inside of it. - Create a GPO with folder redirection set to another location as well as any lockdown settings you want for your TS.
- Set the security on the GPO so that it does *not* apply to Administrators. You can do this by adding a Deny Apply Group Policy entry to the GPO's DACL.
- Enable Loopback processing with the Replace option.

Loopback processing of Group Policy

The other thing to consider is whether or not you are using roaming profiles and if you have specified a Terminal Services Profile either using a GPO or on each user's account Properties.
If you are using roaming profiles then they would slow down your WAN link as well.

After you have the above issues corrected please:

- Monitor WAN bandwidth utilization as well as latency
- Consider implementing a packet shaping or a bandwidth management hardware/software solution to maintain consistent performance for your TS users (if needed).
- Consider using a 3rd Party Universal Printer Driver solution if you are not already. This will reduce bandwidth consumed by print jobs and maximum limits can be set.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have a terminal server located in our chicago office, user connect
to this from all over the country. The performance on the server is
very slow to everyone outside of the chicago office, everyone located
on the local terminal server LAN the performance is great. All users
have their My documents folder redirected via GPO to a local server in
their offfice, eg, NY user to NY server. When the NY User logs into
the Chicago TS the perfromance is terrible, the screen paints and when
saving files the "flash light" comes on while it is trying to connect
back to the NY server, therefore everything is going back over the
WAN. I need to block the MY Documents folder redirection so that the
data resides locally on the chicago TS. Any iformation or guidance is
greatly appreciated.
