Did you check the event log to see if there are any useful infomation?
Also, can you logon as administrator to the physical console:
1 open a cmd shell, run qwinsta.exe. What is the output?
2 run mstsc.exe, connect to itself with administrator. Are you able to connect?
Thanks
Soo Kuan

. The reason I mentioned nvidia drivers was because of kb 886212
which mentions a problem similar to this, being logged off when attempting to make a connection using ts.
The firewall on the server is disabled, and since I am connecting locally on our LAN, the connection should not be going through the firewall on the router, at least in theory.
I was able to telnet to port 3389, so it looks like that isn't the problem.
Many thanks
Phil
I'm a little confused by the mention of nVidia drivers; > > what does that have
to do with anything in the first place?
Regardless, I have to ask one other thing. You >mentioned enabling remote
desktop in the remote tab, but did you make sure to open the firewall port?
I would think you'd get an error if the port was closed, but it's worth
checking. You should also set the Terminal Services service is to start
automatically, not manually.
You should be able to test if the firewall port is open by telnet-ing to
port 3389 from another machine.

service pack 1.via remote desktop from either a work station or even the
server.
The person that originally installed the os, for some unknown reason,
installed terminal services in per user mode, even though we have no need
for it, and do not have
any licenses.
After the 120 day trial period, I could no longer connect to the server.
After reading numerous messages and web pages, I learned that I needed to
uninstall ts via add/remove.
I did this, and I made sure that remote desktop is checked in the remote
tab under system.
I checked netstat and here is the relevant line:
TCP 0.0.0.0:3389 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING
I didn't see any errors or warnings in the event logs after I attempted to
connect.
terminal services is started when I looked at services, it said started
manual.
server type says remote desktop for administration when I looked using
terminal services configuration under server.
The symptom is,
when I try to connect, after a few seconds, I am returned to the connect
button.
no messages, nothing.
I have tried to connect using the administrator account. I have also
tried users that I know are not in the remote desktop users group, still
no messages or errors.
I have run out of ideas.
I do not think it is the problem with nvidia drivers, the server doesn't
have an nvidia display adapter.
What should I look at next?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Phil
