Yeah, I can imagine from coming from NT4 what experiences you have had. I
really started getting into Windows in the 2000 days and had limited
experience with running, (more like just praying that tommorow the server was
still up) NT4. I did limited Terminal Services in 2K, none in NT4 and most
of my time has been spent with 2k3. I am so exicited because I am going for
being an MVP (said tounge in check). I like what TS does, and I would say
most of my printers have been pretty mainstream but I did have a few that
were unknown to Windows, and had to hack some weird file to make it work.
That was at my old job, and at my new job I have had better luck. As far as
new to it, yeah I am newer than you and I don't have NT4 clouding my vision
to say and that is based on the fact that I am not really that old. I think
I was in Elementray School when NT4 hit the streets, and maybe younger than
that.

The main advantage I see to TS and why it really exictes me so much is I
work for a non-profit and people donate us old crappy computers all of the
time. So the only way I see to be able to use the free computers and still
keep our orginzation where it needs to be as far as technology is TS. All of
our machines are dumb terminals that simply link up to TS so we are running
P2 133MHz, with 32MB of RAM running XP to hook up to TS. The good hardward
(P4 class machines) only run as well as our old P2's hence my excitment.

To Twinstar, if you are even reading as this is a long post :) Even if you
are not an NPO, you can still utilize old hardware just like us that can be
picked up on eBay for nothing, garage sales, or auctions. Heck you could
start a communitity "recyling program" for their old machines and take it as
a tax break I would bet (talk to your accountant first)

You're very lucky if you haven't seen application problems on terminal
server. Most IT people (experienced - 10+ years) hear terminal server
and associate it with applications crashing, etc.

Thank you for enthusiasm. You must be new at this or you're doing
something the rest of us don't know about to stay so enthusiastic about
this stuff!

I would agree with his quotes on the memory and the processors. Although I
don't know you need two if you get a Core Duo machine. We run with 4 logical
processors at 2.8 as I have stated and that gets the job done very well.

Everything else, in my opinion, might be more personal experience than what
is actually the way it is. I have had no problems with printers and I have
used both network printers and those redirected through the client. And as
far as applications are concerned, there probably are some that are not TS
aware, but in my opinon, Window Server 2003 handles them very nicely as I
have had none that could not be made to work and I have run some strange
applications on TS in my time.

If you need help just ask, I would be happy to lend a hand, and Oskar, if
you need help please make a post and lets talk about the problems you are
having. If I don't know the answer, I bet someone on this board does.

you need to start reading up quick.

usually, you figure about 150-200mb per user. so for about 20 users,
4gb of ram is a good rule. You have to be careful of what applications
people want to run on TS, it's not a good idea to run anything on there.
Please verify if the application works on TS.

Will all 22 be online at the same time? If so, get a strong CPU (2 or
more is very nice). If not, single strong cpu should be fine.

Printing is another headache. I hope you have network printers!
