Troy,
To frame this up, I posted this same response to a similar question and
just
copied it for you. If you want to look around at a TS server, or maybe
want
help with the setup or the whole process, let me know and I be happy to
help.
Following was my response.
Matt
Hardware: I support probably 10 concurrent users, and about 20 that can be
logged on at the same time and then in the summer we really increse in
users
because I work at a summer camp and we have computer access for our
employees. I will tell you what i have and know that would be good enough
to
run what you need as my users are completely on TS and run everything on
the
server.
Dell PowerEdge 2800
2x2.8 GHz Intel Xeons
4GB of RAM
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 64-bit
2x146GB Raid 1 SCSI 10,000 RPM drives
Of course this is a broad overview and if you want anymore specific
details
let me know. Also I just want to let you know that if you don't plan on
growing any more stick with the Standard Edition as it is much cheaper,
although you don't get System Resource Manager which is a very cool tool.
I
went with Enterprise because I see it growing in the future, and I work
for a
non-profit so we get really cheap licencing.
Speaking of licencing here is what you need.
For each user:
1 Windows Server 2003 CAL
1 Windows Server 2003 TSCAL (Device or User)
If you plan on running Microsoft Office you will need a CAL for each
DEVICE
that plans on connecting to the server. In addition to the previous
mentioned licences.
For more Microsoft Details see here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/7/7/17745e4a-5d31-4de4-a416-07c646336d94/desktop_application_with_windows_server_terminal_services.doc
You will need to chose whether you want to issue Device or User TS
licences.
And you only need to ask one question about which you want. Do I have
more
users or more devices? I happen to have more users than devices because I
work at a summer camp in which 10 summer staff will use one computer so
the
Device Cal makes sense for me. Let me know if you need any more help or
want
to take a look at TS in action.

Hello All,
Newbie here whose been given the task to spec out a server to run
Microsoft
Terminal Server 2003. The company has 22 users and they plan to use this
server to access their SBS system. Since I've never worked with TS let
alone
installed, I have no clue as to what is recommended.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Troy
