Re: initiating a remote desktop session from a service

Thanks Guy,
But my problem is really very simple.
A service "MyLauncher Service" executes a command "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mstsc
/edit c:\MyRdp.rdp", And in the previous version, the dialog appeared and
one could enter domain, user and password, and then save this information in
the rdp file.
And when the rdp file is configured the /edit is replaced by /console.
Bingo, then a desktop is available even after the machine is restarted and
no-one is logged on the machine.
This is no longer possible in version 6.0.
As far as i can tell, the RDP v 6 must have access to some network for
validation, and if mstsc is launched from a "Service" then the credentials
cannot be saved/edited. But i may be wrong.
It would perhaps be wishful thinking to hope for this option in the next
version of remote desktop. It could perhaps be a local machine only option.

Allan,
Take a look at the last answer in this FAQ:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ts/archive/2007/01/22/vista-remote-desktop-connection-authentication-faq.aspx#_Prompted_for_Authentication.
It allows you to disable network level authentication which change the
authentication behavior of the new RDP client (make sure to read the
caveats).
Also, I haven't had a chance to test this thoroughly yet, so if you get a
chance to post your results that would be great.

Hi
Just finished some testing.
Unfortunately i found no solution for my problem.
The option "%windir%\system32\mstsc.exe /edit c:\myrdp.rdp"
I still do not get the possibility to save the domainname, username and
password in the rdp file.
This means that the "credentials" are invalid.
I use the remote desktop to connect to the same machine that executes the
cmd. kind of remoting to "127.0.0.1"
Since I need an active desktop in order to handle ms word documents a.o.
I cant see any other way than removing the update for the remote desktop
version 6.0.

Hi there
From a service a cmd file was called containing these three
lines "..\mstsc.exe /edit c:\myrdp.rdp"
timeout 60
"..\mstsc.exe c:\myrdp.rdp /console"
Before installing version 6.0 it was possible to save
credentials, with password, to c:\myrdp.rdp file even though the
session was started from a service.
After upgrading, it is no longer possible to do this.
Any ideas of how to do this with the new version of remote
desktop ?
