Re: No sound - possibly simple question

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I forced the update and then I also rebooted the servers just in case. Don't
know why it didn't set.

Thanks again,

Aaron

OK, I thought that you had already configured this in your group
policy, in

Computer configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components
\Terminal Services\Client/Server data redirection
"Allow audio redirection"

but maybe the policy wasn't updated yet?

Anyhow, I'm glad that you have solved the problem!

Thank you Vera. You are a great help as always. Guess I can use
that for a different project. This issue is resolved. I have
pasted the instructions below that I followed.

Start -> Run and typed: tscc.msc, under Terminal Services
Configuration, connections should be highlighted and look to the
right hand side and then you should see RDP-tcp, right click and
go to properties and click on client settings and make sure that
audio mapping is NOT checked, press okay and reboot and that
should do the trick.

Thanks again for of the input.

You do *not* need a sound card on the server, since the sound
is rendered by a virtual device (the RDP audio driver).

Have you checked if there is a Group Policy higher up in the
hierarchy blocking audio redirection?
Check the RSoP (Resultant Set of Policies).

Thank you for the reply. The WIndows AUdio Service is
running. I have installed a sound card and if I log onto the
machine locally it shows just fine. If I log on via RDP and
check the Sound and Audio Devices under control panel it
still shows Microsoft RDP as the default sound provider and
will not allow me to un-mute it. Log on locally and it is
un-muted and using Soundblaster Audiology. I am totally
confused now.

I set the group policy to allow users to redirect and play
audio. I have set the settings in RDP. I am completely out of
ideas. Anyone know what I did wrong?

Thank you again.

Aaron,
Please also make sure that Windows Audio service is
started (open cmd
shell, type 'net start').
Thanks
Soo Kuan

As far as I know you do need a physical sound card in the
server for audio to
work.

Hello, I have our new estimating software set up to work
via T.S. but cannot
get sound.

Our domain controller is an SBS2003 Premium computer. Our
Terminal Server is
Windows Server 2003. We access via RDC.

There are several sound drivers and codecs listed under
Device Manager and
there is a MS RDP Audio Driver listed as a device under
Sounds and Audio
Devices in control panel. It is muted and will not allow
us to unmute.

Do I need a physical sound card in the server for this to
work?

Thanks in advance.
