Re: Local Printing

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Vera

It isn't always network printers but also just printers directly connected.

Also, the printers' simply weren't seen in the TS Session.

And further from your response...it seems mostly fixed now! I must say a
big thank you as I hadn't looked at the Event Log.

I was also misinformed by "tech heads" which I now use loosely for them as I
had been told the drivers aren't necessary on the server as they are on the
local computers... now I have installed drivers (as per Event Log) and they
appear to be working.

Thank you again.

I assume that with "local printer" you mean a network printer on
the local network?

With "cannot print", do you mean that the printer is not redirected
in the TS session, or do you see the redirected printer, but you
cannot use it (print jobs sticks in the queue or disappears)?

What do you see in the EventLog on the TS? Is there an Event which
records that redirection fails, or is there no printer-related
Event at all (meaning that the server doesn't even try to redirect
the printer)?

And, probably most important: which printer drivers are you using
on the terminal Server? Did you install 3rd party printer drivers?
If so, that's most likely the cause of the problem.

I hope someone can help with this as it has had a few of us
baffled... including the Tech we brought in (maybe he was just
no good?).

We run a Windows Server 2003, with people on different computers
(different locations), different printers etc all using it.
Most of these locations I also log on with my laptop and can
print to all of their printers from my laptop.

This problem extends to other users from their own desktops as
well as myself but essentially some of the locations I can print
to the local printer from my Remote Desktop Connection and
others I just can't (although can print direct).

All settings are checked for local printer (as it works in some
places) etc on both the server & in the local resources
settings. Also it was previously printing to the local printer
from my own desktop running the Remote Desktop Connection but
has suddenly stopped working.

Could somebody please assist in identifying the reasons, or at
least point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

David
