Re: Limiting how many TS users can concurrently use a specific applica

I recall a few months back scanning this same news group for a similar issue
for Office 2003. If I recall, someone posted a link to a site where there
was a windows script /batch file that seemed like it would do the trick.
Never got around to testing it, but the the idea was to run this script as
part of the login process (or as the file to launch the specified
application) having it perform a current tally of the app process and decide
whether the license limit had been reached or not.

If not, continue with launching the application. If so, echo a message that
the limit has been reached or that there are no more licenses available,
then quit.

Hope this helps..

Hi,

There's unfortunately not an built-in mechanism to limit the instances of
a given application. Howerver, there are supplemental solutions to do
this. Softricity does this:
http://www.softricity.com/solutions/assets.asp. I believe there are other
3rd-party solutions as well, but I don't have an exhaustive list of
solutions.

Thanks,
Drew

I have a Windows 2003 Server (Standard) running as a stand-alone server in
a
fairly large NetWare network (approx 25 NetWare 6.5 servers in 10
different
sites). This Windows 2003 server is configured as a terminal server to
provide access to specific applications (non-Microsoft), one of which has
both a program that creates maps and a "viewer" program that can only
read
the maps. I need to limit concurrent ts users that are using the "create"
program without limiting the "viewer" ts users or ts users running other
applications. Is there a way to do this within the configuration of the
Windows server, or do I need to control this some other way? The mapping
application will control concurrent users if installed as a standard
server
application, but not if it is running under terminal services.
