Thank you, Vera, for your help. I will try to change the settings in the
session to see if they stay.
I should have added that the users connect to the Terminal Server over a VPN
and that it (the terminal server) is located in our home office, while the
printers are located in thier office along with the DC, Print
Server,Antivirus Server (Same server--this greatly reduced the time it took
for them to log in locally).
We were trying to redirect the printers to see of they could print more
quickly. There is a considerable lag time from the time they hit print and
the printer starts to print abd our remote users get feisty.
If you know of any thing else that may help "speed" up their sessions and
printing, I am ready to listen.

This is by design. Documented here:.
291251 - Non-default printer properties are not reflected in a
Terminal Services redirected printer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291251
But once the users have configured the printers in their sessions,
the settings should be cached nd available for later sessions. BUT:
check this also:
243942 - Terminal Services printer redirection not signaled on
change to server-side Device Settings tab in Windows 2000 or
Windows Server 2003

You could also install the printers directly on the Terminal
Server, which would make them available to all users.

Hello,
We have a print server (W2K) in a remote office with 5 different
printers loaded on it. We also have a few instances where the
same physical printer is on there more that once, each time with
differnt settings. One that automatically prints from tray 2,
one that automatically prints duplex and so one. All for the end
user, you know what I mean.
My question is, when we map these printers to the users session
(W2K3 Terminal Server, RDP 5.?) the settings do not follow. The
Duplex printer does not print duplex automatically, the tray 2
printer (for letter head) prints out of tray 1. If I look at the
device settings they look like the default ones that are created
when you first install a printer, they are not the same as on
the local side.
Is there a way to have these settings follow along when the
printer is mapped?
