Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Thanks TP! I don't know what it was that you said, but it made me think of
such an easy way to do it. I can't believe I didn't think of it! I just
logged onto a PC on the network and ran a remote mmc to the sytstem and
changed the group policy. Thank you for you help and everyone else who put
thought into it.

Phil,

Did you edit the local group policy, or a Domain group
policy?

Is this TS server a member server, a domain controller, or a
standalone server?

If it is a standalone server, then you must have edited the
local policy. Here are the steps to undo it:

1.) Map a drive to the server's C: drive from a workstation.
From your workstation you would type something like
(substitute servername & password):

net use s: \\servername\c$ /user:administrator password

2.) Make sure explorer is set to show hidden files/folders, then
navigate to the following folder on the server (S:):

S:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\User

3.) Rename the registry.pol file to registry.pol.bak

4.) Navigate to the following folder on the server (S:):

S:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\Machine

5.) Rename the registry.pol file to registry.pol.bak

6.) Navigate to the following folder on the server (S:):

S:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy

7.) Rename the gpt.ini file to gpt.ini.bak

8.) Restart your server.

Please respond if your server is a member server or
domain controller and I will post the instructions for
those as well. Also, I can assist you if you are unable
to map a drive to your server because of windows
firewall or file and printer sharing disabled, etc.

The have been denied access from the whole C: and can not even run
command prompt. I created a shortcut to gpedit.msc and that wouldn't
run either. I didn't know about GPO until after I locked the system
down and did some more research. That obviously will be my next step,
but I am hoping there is something I can do to fix this without data
loss.
