RE: how to limit each user to 1 or 2 instances of IE v6

Here's info about the Aurema Armtech technology you inquired about. This
technology is built-into Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition,
but is available for terminal server w/o Citrix, or on non-Enterprise
Editions of Citrix Presentation Server:

ntvdm is the Virtual DOS Machine that runs any 16 bit application, and can
thrash the CPUs on any NT Based PC. 16 bit apps often continually poll the
keyboard for activity, which is fin on a single user computer, but on a
multi-user computer this extra CPU usage can be disasterous.

These CPU/process mgmt apps work in one of the following ways:

1. Clamp the application to a certain % of CPU time
2. Lower the priority of the app
3. Alter the CPU affinity of the app, to have it run on a certain CPU
4. Divide up the available CPU time between the number of logged-on
sessions, so one user can't use more than their share of CPU.

Numbers 1, 2 and 4 are very effective, and number 3 is useful in certain
situations.

Thank you for your suggestion. If I can not find another solution: GPE, etc.
I will use your suggestion. Thanks

PS do you know of a reason why users "ntvdm" cpu usage would go way up (in
general). I can't find any commonality in a cause.

No, but I know of other options, i.e. disabling flash and Windows Media
Player, which use lots of CPU time and bandwidth, and/or using a CPU
management program like Threadmaster, Armtech, Appsense or Relevos.

I am running approx 25-30 users on each of 3 win2k3 dedicated terminal
servers. The problem is that when users start to open more than 2 instances
of IE v6 at their thin client, the CPU processor usage goes way up!

Does anyone know how to limit the number of IE instances a user can open???
