Auto update setting is stored in the settings.sol file in each user's application data.

The quality is set by the parameter on the web page.

I searched using Google, and found where there was an option to override quality on OS/2 WARP. Nothing about overriding it on the windows version of flash player.

Have you asked this question in a Flash developer's newsgroup, or Macromedia/Adobe support?
