The problem with Microsoft is that "Printers" are owned by the Windows
Client team not the Windows Server team. So the TS group has very little
influence over their priorities (including, I imagine, how much pressure to
put on the IHVs to support TS). I gave a presentation to the TS team last
spring in which I strongly urged them to provide a universal print driver
solution themselves rather than wait for the next generation of printing to
pan out. I just don't know how politically palatable that is.
The long term answer appears to be Metro, and getting the printer
manufacturers to directly support Metro's PDL in their printers. But that
could easily take another 5 years to pan out.
