yes that is the preferred way. Put TS on a member server.

Yes, you do NOT want to install TS on a SQL server. Both are resource and
memory intensive applications. You will get a very very limited number of
users (yes I know only four but I will guarantee you it will grow and then
everyone will be unhappy) on the server and performance will suffer for
both. Really bad idea. You will also have to reinstall all applications
when you put TS on the server. The shadow key needs to be populated
properly.
