Hello,
Thanks for posting!
I understand that you want to know if you need to reinstall all programs
when you install TS. However, I am sorry that I cannot make sure the exact
warning message you indicated. To under the situation better, please help
me know the exact warning message or take a screen shot if possible.
Based on my experience, to ensure all programs run well, we suggest you
reinstall all programs.
There are two methods of toggling the Terminal Services mode that have
adverse effects on the programs running on a Terminal Services server. The
first method is by toggling between Remote Administration mode and
Application Server mode. The second is by disabling or removing the
Terminal Services component. If you do so, your programs may not start or
work as designed.
For more detailed information, you may refer to the following article:

Programs Not to Work

Hope the information helps.

| We have about 4 people who are working with a new (to us) product on a
| dedicated server. The limit of 2 Remote Desktop for Administration
proved
| frustrating, so we went and purchased 5 Terminal Services User licenses.
|
| I am in the process of installing TS when I received a warning message
that
| if I proceed to install TS, my previously installed programs will not be
| available and I will need to reinstall them. The four people working on
this
| project were not at all happy with that prospect. I have since looked
| further into the literature and I understand how with a server running TS
| programs get installed in the system root rather than the user's home
| directory and how later "user-specific registry setting files (.ini,
| .dll,.ocx, and so on) are propagated as needed to the user's home
directory."
|
| My question is this: Is this an absolute statement or just a "it really
| would be better if you did it this way" statement? What is confusing is
that
| this problem never shows up between the three free users (2 remote and 1
| console), so why would adding one more be a problem? If we proceed, will
| these programs simply not work or is MS saying 'we won't support you if
you
| do it this way', and if so, how risky is this?
|
| One more question: Why is this fact so buried in the literature that I
did
| not come across it until I was about to install the program, which would
| cause all the developer's work to be unuseable, i.e. they would have to
| reinstall and reconfigure? Shouldn't this be out in the open and people
told
| that if they purchase TS licenses they will have to reinstall your
programs?
|
| Thanks to anyone who can help with this. Bill
