Re: Program Will Not Start

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Everything else works just fine in the session. The computer does not have dual monitors. It uses the onboard Intel graphics module.

Okay, a slight misunderstanding. Typically when people say terminal services they are talking about the full blown server service. Now we talking the same wave length. the whole VNC/PCAnywhere thing makes sense now.

mmm, I'm not sure what to check at this point. Can the user open other applications when they are remoted in through RDP? Definately check the event logs. does the workstation they are remoteing into have dual monitors?

We're trying to run the program through RDP on a regular XPP box. I was told by an MVP that RDP is the same service as TS. If that's true, then I assume your questions are appropriate.

The vendor claims that their program should work. However, I am not convinced that they are correct or that they have even tested it. Regarding your questions, I have not checked the error log, but I will. The program will run from the server console.

Recall that if the program is left open and if the remote user logs in with the program already open, it works fine. For example, a remote user left the office today without leaving the program open. I accessed his XPP through VNC and opened the program. I exited the session after which he connected through RDP and was able to work in the program. The only issue is that the program does not start through RDP/TS.

You are logging into the terminal server with VNC and pcanywhere?

Are there any errors in the event logs? Have you run filemon/regmon from http://www.sysinternals.com to see if it's a permissions issue? does the vendor support the application on terminal services? Have you contacted the vendor? Have you tried running the program from the server console?

We have several machines that run a program call NDCLytec. It is medical practice software that accesses a Pervasive database on a Windows 2003 Server. The problem is that when the user is logged in with TS and double clicks on the program icon, the program does not start. If I log in with VNC, it starts and runs fine. The same is true with pcAnywhere. The only problem is with TS (which we prefer to use because it is faster than either of the other two options.) Is there a way to fix this problem? If the user leaves the program open before leaving the office and then connects to the computer remotely, they are able to use the program. The only issue is starting the program.
