Remote Desktop not working after Terminal Services uninstall on W2

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hello,

I have a W2k3 server that I installed Terminal Services on. I then realised
I only need one connection to my server and that Remote Desktop will do the
trick. I uninstalled TServices and kept Remote Desktop enabled.

I could get in remotely through RD no problem.

Here is the bug:

As long as my old W2K server that has Terminal Services running is on the
network I can get into my W2k3 server by Remote Desktop. If I take the Old
W2k server with TS running offline, I can not get in to my W2k3 server
remotely. I get to the W2k3 loggon screen put my logon details in and then
Error: "The system cant log you on due to following error. The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted".

I then noticed in the event viewer of the W2k3 server that is making
refrerences for a TerminalServices License server....or....something to that
extent - looking for my old W2k Term Server.

If I bring my old W2k TerminalServer on line I can get back in because W2k3
server has found a Licsence sever.

My problem is that we are not using Terminal Services any more and the old
W2k server is being taken completely offline forever.

Would anyone have any idea how to bypass this? As far as I know I have
uninstalled Terminal Services off the W2k3 server completely?

I imagine there might be a registry setting or something telling my W2k3
server to stop looking for a Lic Server and just let Remote Desktop do it's
thing?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Thank you!

Andy
