Thanks for the info - we have the same issue. We're also running the
UPHClean service to unload profiles but it doesn't seem to make any
difference.
There _is_ a way to remove "locked" user profiles without rebooting the
server, though.
1) Start Regedit
2) Go to HKEY_USERS
3) If you know the user's SID, just select the user's hive and select
File, Unload Hive. Do the same for the user's hive that ends in
"_classes".
4) If you don't know the user's SID, do a Find on the user's userid.
You will find the userid under HKU\<user's SID>
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer in the value for
"LogonUserName". In this way you can determine the user's SID. Now
perform step 3.
5) You should now be able to delete the user's profile.
