My issue maybe very simple but it's bothering me since it doesn't seem to be working like it should.
*Brand new setup*
I have a 2003 DC that running a TS License Server. I have a Windows 2000 member server running Terminal Services.
On the license server I have 10 2000 TS CAL(per device) volume license, through enterprise licensing. I activated these before any thing logged into the the TS server.
The TS server is a clean installation of Server 2000. I have to run 2000 due to the application I need to run. This server is a member server of the 2003 domain I'm running.
When I log into to the TS server with my XP boxes they receive the "Existing Windows 2000 Server - Termainl Servers Cal token (per device)" These are listed as unlimited and have no expiration on them. Not understanding why they take these instead of the registered licenses but as long as they don't expire I don't care.
Now here comes the tricky part. I have Mac users who use the Mac RDC. When I use a mac clients to connect to the TS they take the newly created 'Temporary Licenses for Windows 2000 Server..." These have an expiration date of 90 days. I don't to worry about them expiring and not letting people do their work.
No errors in the event logs on either server. I've done KB239107 on the 2000 TS server. When I look in the ts manager is doesn't specify a license type for any client connected to the server xp or mac. I've run the lsreport and lsview from the resource kit and everything checks out like what's shown in the license manager.
My questions are, are the XP clients taking the right licenses based off my config? Why are my mac clients taking temp licenses instead of the real ones that I have? Is there anything that can assure me that they will cross over properly when the 90 days are up?
Any insight would be great.
