Re: Network problem Server 2008 - IPV6 static IP address

Hey Meinolf,

Yeah I kind of saw that was what other people were doing as well. The network I am supporting does not require IPV6 support.

I was just cuious if anyone had started implementing it and if there was a set of rules yet.

Do you know the procedures for disabling properly?

I understand just going into TCP/IP and removing that way is the unproper way to do it.

Thank you,

Walter

Hello Walter,

I have seen problems in the newsgroups, which where solved by disabling IPv6, especially with DNS. So i think if you not use complete IPv6 disabling is a good idea.

Hello,

I am setting up a new server 2008 machine and of course when I setup
the DNS server it complains that no static IP address is assigned to
the computer.

Of coruse I have a IPV4 ip address assigned, it is the IPV6 that is
causing the issue.

Now I have no problem assigning it a Static IP address, but my
familiarity with v6 is a little small at the moment. Is there some
private class ranges I can use or do I just assign it whatever I want?

I know this is more of a networking question. Maybe a better question
is what have you done to rectify this problem?

I've seen some people talk about disabling that feature. Is that what
everyone is doing or is there a better idea?

Thank you,

Walter Beach
