Will,
Was there anything in the event logs on the desktops in question? Or how
about the server?

We have 16 desktops in our computer lab. Every 4 units are connected to a
switch .
Today we had a situation where 2 computers on the same switch
authenticated but when we try to access network resources , we get a
message that the domain controller is inaccessible. We did a restart on
the computers and thy work fine.
What causes a desktop to not be seen by the domain controller?
Could the lease and renew comfit in DECO cause this behavior?
.
