Re: How to setup S2K3 with one NIC and Wireless DHCP Router

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

It would be better to disable DHCP on the router and configure the DC as a
DHCP server, but you said you wanted to continue to use the router for
DHCP - so: Give the new DC a static IP address - it must point to itself
for DNS. Change the DHCP settings on the router to give out the DC's IP for
DNS; and configure forwarders on the DC's DNS service to point to your ISP's
DNS server. .

Hello,
I have searched until my eyes bled and still cannot find a conclusive
answer, but I have come very close. This question definitely falls in
the "novice student category."

I have satellite broadband in "building A" connected to a MS
wireless router. 300' away in "building B", I have a Linksys
wireless router setup as a Client to receive the satellite broadband
signal from the MS router.
Wired to that Client, I have another Linksys wireless router setup as
an Access Point with DHCP. This all works splendidly for internet
access for the few computers in "building B".
Now, I am attempting to add a server and create a domain of the few
computers in "building B".

My question is, how can I set up Server2K3 so that I can have control
of the few computers in "building B" and leave the existing
internet access the way it is. In other words, I want to use Active
Directory to control user accounts, have the convenience of a file
server, print server, etc., but I want to use one NIC in the server,
and use the existing DHCP on the wireless router.

What I fail to understand is, with it setup this way, what roles will
be required on the server and how do I maintain control of the clients
through the server if they get IP's through the DHCP on the router?
I should know this, but just cannot get my head around it!
Thanks for any tips, ideas, or smacks upside the head.
Tony S.
