Out of the box Windows Server 2003 does NOT include Windows Installer 3.1
If you install SP1 that does include it.
I would highly recommend installing SP1!

i have installed windows server 2003, its windows installer version is
2.0.3790.0. although the microsoft site claims that windows server 2003
has built in windows installer 3.1. i ran the update for windows
installer 3.1(WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe), it prompts "the
existing system is already updated, no need to install this update".
Luckily i got an update for windows 2003
(WindowsServer2003-KB898715-x86-enu.exe), after its installation the
msi.dll version is 3.1.4000.2435 and msiexec.exe version remains the
same as 2.0. with this configuration my software installation is not
being done properly. Errors like system halt and large page file memory
usage are being occured.
Any suggestion to resolve this issue. i.e. how can i update windows
2003 system to use windows installer 3.1. ?????
Thanx in advance.
